Downstream

Refineries are complex sites with many fluid processing units, containment vessels and significant pipeline lengths. Refineries can be vulnerable to corrosion or erosion phenomena and loss of containment of fluids can lead to serious accidents, with the associated undesirable environmental and financial impacts. Despite significant improvements in knowledge of how to mitigate and manage potential problems, assuring mechanical integrity is of the highest priority for refinery owners.

At a typical refinery, metal wall thickness is directly measured with manual-held sensors at thousands of locations.
